Easter is over and everyone is busy with spring cleaning. It’s time to throw open the windows and let in the fresh air. Pack away winter for another year and get ready for summer. I look at spring as time for renewal and new beginnings. The one thing you don’t want to forget to do is to spring clean your makeup bag.
How to Spring Clean Your Makeup Bag
Take stock of what you have. Do you really use it all? If you don’t, get rid of what you don’t use.
Organize what you have left. You could group together by like items, daytime and evening, or special occasion. Use the method that works best for you.
Clean your makeup bag. Wipe it out with a mild detergent. If it is cloth, run it through your washing machine. Bacteria collects in your bag on loose or spilled product and can cause eye infections and skin irritations. You don’t want that because then you have to replace it all!
Check the expiration dates. Most makeup products have a symbol on their packaging with how many months a product is good for once it is open.
Believe it or not, your makeup isn’t good forever. Those products have a shelf life and shouldn’t be kept past their expiration date. The clock starts ticking once you open them, so to avoid a host of eye and skin irritations, follow this schedule for replacing your makeup.
Brushes and applicators should be cleaned on a regular basis with a good brush cleaner to prevent the spread of bacteria and to make them last as long as possible.
With good care they will last for quite awhile, but you should replace them if they start shedding or become misshapen.
