Hello Dolls!
I am so excited to talk about this topic today, because I think that it is something that everyone has experienced at one time or another and that is “Nervous Flying”. Statistically 70% of passengers fear flying.
Now when you are super well traveled you have probably been through most experiences. Whether is be a delay, turbulence, circling the airport until there is an open gate, have to touch down for gas etc. Everytime you travel it gets a little easier and you learn to enjoy the journey. But not everyone is on a plane a lot and little things can be super scary if you don’t know what is going on. I get it and I have definitely been there with you and I am going to tell you a few things that will ease your mind and a few tricks of the trade that will calm any flight anxiety that you may have.
So let’s first dive into statistics. Flying on commercial airline is deemed the safest form of transportation that is available to us currently. How come? The entire system of international travel via airline is so carefully regulated. The entire system of airline travel is built to make you safe. They know every passenger on every flight, every pilot on every plane, and every plane that is around you which you don’t have in a car, train, or bus.
Let’s talk about the elephant in the room…Turbulence. Most planes experience minor turbulence and there is a little known secret that makes me feel better about flying with turbulence. Look to the flight attendant. They deal with it all of the time and if it is something to worry about you will see it on their face.Out of the billions of flights each year only a total of 100 people get injured by turbulence for the entire year. Half of that number being flight attendants. If turbulence is something that you have anxiety about there is a great app called Turbcast. Turbcast was designed by a pilot and it analyzes the weather patterns just like a pilot would. Being in the know is definitely a way to calm down anxiety.
So what can we do to combat flight anxiety besides staying in the know?
-
Bring a picture of your destination. This might be a weird one but when you bring a picture of your destination you have something to look forward to. To take your mind off of your worries and get your mind focused on the destination
-
Download the Calm App. This app gives you a 30 day free trial and is perfect for flights. It has hundreds of meditations, sleep stories, and excercices to calm you down.
-
Tell the flight attendant you are slightly nervous about flying. Again maybe not your normal route of calming your fears but they can provide assurance and also give you some vital tips to have a smooth flight.
-
Lavender Oil Bracelets. This is perfect for a calm down since lavender oil is scientifically proven to be a scent that calms the nerves. To not distract the fellow passengers on the flight buy essential oil bracelets or necklaces to dispence a tiny bit of oil and not to over power the plane.
Flying again can be scary but take these steps and your flight will be a whole lot smoother.
Cheers!
