Are The Flower Fields in Carlsbad, CA really worth visiting this spring?
I’m sure we have all visited a flower field and have been, well, disappointed. The flowers were almost dead or the pictures we had seen of it were very misleading making the experience extremely underwhelming. Well, not at The Flower Fields in Carlsbad, CA! I recently had the opportunity to visit these gorgeous flower fields with my daughter and they did not disappoint.
I am going to tell you about my experience at The Flower Fields in Carlsbad, CA and why you have to make it a top destination if you’re in Southern California this spring. Keep reading to learn why you should visit and how to make this an easy, Covid-19 friendly weekend trip!
Why visit?
Well, for starters, the fields are beautiful! Not only will you walk away with some stunning photos but with a memory of a lifetime. Also, you could spend hours here! They offer so much more than just the flowers which I will share more about a little later on. Furthermore, it’s unique with all of it’s many flower colors! No other flower field has impressed me more than this one and I don’t think any other one will!
Important things to note before visiting The Flower Fields at Carlsbad, CA:
You need to know a few things before planning a visit to these stunning fields because they are running things a little differently this year due to Covid-19.
First, The Flower Fields are now open until Mother’s Day. However, Mother’s Day weekend will most likely be packed, so I suggest going before that weekend. The BEST time to go is from April-May!
Second, you must purchase tickets before hand. This is a new Covid-19 related precaution, so make sure you don’t show up without pre-purchased tickets. That would be a sad day! You can purchase your tickets here.
Third, The Flower Fields in Carlsbad, CA are handicapped accessible. Although they do not recommend using the paths in between the flower rows while in a wheelchair, they have created a more wheelchair accessible and paved path at the bottom of the fields that offers just as stunning of views. In addition to this path, they also offer a wagon tour that is wheelchair and walker accessible.
Fourth, you must wear your mask at all times except when actively taking photos. This will keep you and those around you safe while still allowing you to safely snap those stunning photos you want. Just make sure to stay at least 6 feet away from others.
What to expect when visiting The Flower Fields in Carlsbad, CA:
When you show up, they will check that you have your pre-purchased ticket. You can then choose to walk around on foot or you can opt in for the wagon tour (p.s. this is an extra fee). The wagon will bring you around the perimeter of all the flower fields ~ over 50 acres! If you would like to get out and take pictures, you can do so at any point. However, you then have to walk the rest of your time in The Flower Fields and cannot get back on the wagon. It’s so worth it to get to walk through the flowers, though!
My personal pro-tips for your visit:
Pro-Tip #1: WEAR WALKING SHOES! You guys, as I mentioned, there are over 50 acres of beautiful flowers! You better believe you need some comfortable walking shoes. Bring a more fabulous pair to change in to for photos if you like, but you’ll thank me later when you don’t have blisters on your feet from uncomfortable shoes!
Pro-Tip #2: The best time to take photos is in the morning! So, when purchasing tickets, make sure you purchase tickets for a morning slot. The lighting will be beautiful!
Pro Tip #3: Bring a photographer! You don’t want to miss out on the great photos you can get here, so bring a professional! The Flower Fields are that beautiful and provide this amazing of a backdrop.
Is there anything else to do at The Flower Fields in Carlsbad, CA?
Yes! So glad you asked 😉
On site they also have a beautiful orchid greenhouse that is amazing! Also, if you visit in late March and April, you are allowed to pick fresh blueberries. This is new this year and I may have to go back for this! In addition to these two activities, they offer multiple gardens, bird aviaries, an American Flag shaped flower field, a historic poinsettia display, and a maze. Finally, if you have kids, they can enjoy a very unique playground experience!
Are you convinced yet?
Seriously, there is so much to do here and The Flower Fields at Carlsbad, CA are genuinely breathtaking. What a unique way to spend a sunny Southern California spring day!
